Kamuli, Uganda: The Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Rev Prof. Grace Lubaale, has called for a return to integrity, hard work, and honest wealth creation, warning that corruption and ill-got riches are eroding moral values in society.
Rev Lubaale made the remarks during a pastoral visit to the home of Col Allan Kitanda in Butansi, Kamuli District. The bishop expressed concern that society is increasingly celebrating individuals who acquire wealth through dishonest means.
“People now praise those who are corrupt as being smart and sharp, forgetting that ill-got wealth is a curse that will haunt families and is short-lived,” he said, urging Ugandans to remain committed to doing good rather than chasing quick riches.
Bishop Lubaale emphasized that corruption is not limited to theft of public funds but also includes everyday misconduct.
“A civil servant who reports late, leaves early, and still earns a full salary is as corrupt as a politician who diverts public funds,” he said.

He called for moral, spiritual, and leadership renewal to rebuild accountability and integrity in society.
The bishop stressed the need for leadership systems that promote accountability, ethics, and service. “We need leadership that is effective, accountable, and honourable, through which we can restore integrity and build lasting legacies,” he said.
Lubaale commended Col Kitanda and his family for their humility, community service, and commitment to faith. He noted that their lifestyle reflects values of compassion, generosity, and connection to community.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Harriet Kitanda urged couples to support one another, strengthen parenting, and address domestic violence. She also called on the Church to take a leading role in climate change awareness and community resilience.
Kamuli Chief Finance Officer Alex Kifuse praised the family for their humility and commitment to supporting vulnerable children and giving back to the community.
