Nebbi, Uganda: The Chartered Rotary Club of Arua has donated 76 textbooks worth Shs1.8 million to Pubidhi Primary School in Nebbi Municipality, in a move aimed at improving literacy and academic performance among learners.

The textbooks, covering various subjects and class levels, were officially handed over at the school premises by Rotary Club President Odongo Kerunga to the headteacher, Aromborach Agnes.

Odongo said the donation is part of efforts to strengthen basic education and support both learners and teachers with essential learning materials.

“As the Chartered Rotary Club, in partnership with Turn the Page Uganda, we are pleased to donate 76 textbooks worth Shs1.8 million to support learners at Pubidhi Primary School,” he said. “We believe this contribution will significantly improve literacy levels and academic performance.”

He emphasized the importance of proper utilisation and care of the books to ensure long-term impact for future learners.

The School Headteacher, Ms Aromborach Agnes, welcomed the donation, describing it as timely support for a school that has been facing shortages of scholastic materials. “As management, we are grateful for this support, which will greatly contribute to the academic growth of our learners,” she said.

She also encouraged parents to enrol their children at the school, noting that learning resources have now improved.

Nebbi Municipality Deputy Town Clerk Vivien Chota urged the school administration to ensure proper monitoring and evaluation of how the textbooks improve learner performance. “As custodians of the school, ensure these materials are used effectively to improve education outcomes,” she said.

Nebbi Municipality Mayor Geoffrey Ngiriker praised the Rotary Club for its contribution, describing it as a strong example of community partnership in advancing education. “This donation reflects commitment to improving education standards and supporting local initiatives,” he noted.

Rotary International, through its global network, supports initiatives in education, healthcare, clean water, sanitation, and peacebuilding. The donation in Nebbi adds to ongoing efforts by development partners to bridge gaps in access to quality education in rural Uganda.
