Iganga, Uganda: Police in Iganga District have arrested a 27-year-old teacher over the alleged murder of his wife at her parents’ home in Nakalama Sub-county.
The suspect, identified as Kamya Denis, a resident of Nankoma in Bugiri District, is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Namusobya Jackline, 24, who was reportedly pregnant.
According to Busoga East Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha, the incident occurred on Monday, March 30, 2026, at around 10:00am in Nampirika B Village.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect followed his wife to her parents’ home after she had reportedly left their marital residence.
“Initial findings suggest that Kamya went to his in-law’s home and was welcomed by the mother-in-law. Meanwhile, his wife was preparing tea. He followed her to the kitchen and allegedly stabbed her to death,” Kasadha said.
Brother injured, house set ablaze

Police further revealed that the suspect attacked the deceased’s brother, Musobya Paul, who attempted to intervene. He sustained injuries after being stabbed on the left cheek.
Kasadha added that the suspect also set the family’s living house on fire during the incident.
The suspect was later confronted and beaten by angry residents before police intervened and rescued him. He is currently under police guard at Iganga General Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Kasadha said a team of detectives led by the Officer in Charge CID visited the scene, recorded witness statements, and transferred the body to Iganga General Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
He urged the public to remain calm and seek peaceful means of resolving domestic disputes. “We implore members of the public to always seek redress where they face challenges in marriage rather than resorting to violence,” Kasadha said.
Local leaders indicated that the deceased had reportedly separated from her husband and was living at her parents’ home, where she operated a tailoring business.
“We do not know the exact cause, but it appears there were domestic misunderstandings,” LC1 Chairperson Kamba Badiru said, urging residents to avoid acts of violence.
