Kampala, Uganda: Daily Express News, one of Uganda’s fast-rising digital news platforms, has officially been put up for sale, five years after its establishment in 2020, triggering speculation across the media and business community.
Sources within Rabiu Express Media Group, the parent company for DailyExpress, confirmed that the decision was reached after “careful internal reflection” on the future direction of the company, with insiders pointing to growing interest from regional media conglomerates and private investors seeking a stake in Uganda’s evolving digital journalism space.
The development, if concluded, would mark a dramatic shift for the Ntinda-based outlet that has, in recent years, built a reputation for breaking stories, sharp editorial tone, and aggressive online growth strategies.
A senior editor who preferred anonymity revealed that multiple bids had already been tabled, including interest from a Nairobi-based media investment firm and a South African digital content group looking to expand into East Africa.
“There has been consistent pressure from investors who believe DailyExpress has untapped commercial potential,” the source said. “The brand has grown faster than expected, and naturally, that attracts buyers.”

Founded in 2020 under the leadership of Managing Director and Editor Remmy Asiteza, DailyExpress quickly carved a niche in Uganda’s competitive media space by prioritizing speed, digital-first storytelling, and audience-driven reporting.
Industry analysts say the potential sale reflects a broader trend where independent digital outlets are becoming acquisition targets as traditional media houses struggle to adapt to shifting audience habits.
However, concerns have also emerged among staff and readers about what a change in ownership could mean for the outlet’s editorial independence and distinct voice.
Some newsroom sources hinted at uncertainty, with questions lingering over whether new ownership would maintain the current editorial direction that has drastically shaped the digital news space in Uganda or would they pivot toward a more commercial-driven model.
Efforts to reach management for an official statement were unsuccessful by press time.
