University League: Four confirmed for semi-finals as YMCA, Muteesa make history

Kampala, Uganda: Four universities have booked their places in the semi-finals of the 2025/26 Pepsi University Football League (UFL) following a dramatic round of quarter-final clashes.

YMCA Comprehensive Institute, St Lawrence University, Muteesa I Royal University and Kampala University all progressed, with two teams making history by reaching the semi-finals for the first time.

YMCA Comprehensive Institute secured a historic first-ever semi-final berth after edging Kumi University 1-0 at Buwambo on Holy Thursday.

John Kiseka scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot in the 8th minute, sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory following a 1-1 draw in the first leg. The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations among players and fans.

Muteesa I Royal University also reached the last four for the first time after a narrow 1-0 win over Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi in Masaka.

Ali Lutwama’s penalty proved decisive, as the tie ended 2-2 on aggregate, with Muteesa advancing on the away goals rule.

St Lawrence University delivered one of the most dominant performances of the round, thrashing Ndejje University 3-0 at Hamz Stadium.

Julius Kalanda netted a brace while Ambrose Alele added a third goal, completing a commanding 5-1 aggregate victory.

Kampala University progressed after a goalless draw against Bugema University at FUFA Kadiba Stadium. With the tie ending 1-1 on aggregate, Kampala advanced on the away goals rule, underlining how fine the margins were in the knockout stage.

With the semi-final line-up now confirmed, the battle for the 2025/26 UFL crown intensifies.

The competition, organised by Red Rhino Group and sponsored by Crown Beverages Limited under the Pepsi brand, continues to showcase emerging football talent across Uganda’s universities.
