Namayingo, Uganda: A 15-year-old boy has been killed in a fatal road accident in Namayingo District after a speeding motorcycle knocked him as he walked along the roadside.
The Busoga East police spokesperson, ASP Micheal Kasadha, identified the deceased as Sanya Edwin, a resident of Budidi Cell, Budidi Ward in Namayingo Town Council.
According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday evening at Bulamba Cell, Bulamba Ward, along the Jinja Highway, involving a motorcycle whose registration number had not yet been established by press time.
“Initial findings suggest that yesterday, 05/04/2026 at 04:00pm, the juvenile was walking by the roadside along Jinja Highway, before a motorcycle, registration number yet to be established, knocked him. He sustained serious injuries and was taken to Shalom Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead,” ASP Kasadha said in a Monday statement.
The rider, identified as Kabende Vincent, sustained head injuries and is currently admitted at Victory Medical Centre, while the deceased’s body remains at Shalom Medical Center pending a postmortem.

Traffic police who visited the scene pointed to speeding as the likely cause of the crash. Authorities also revealed that the motorcycle involved was removed from the scene by unknown individuals, with efforts underway to trace and impound it as investigations continue.
In an account given to DailyExpress, the injured rider attributed the crash to a dangerous overtaking situation involving other vehicles on the road.
“I got a motorcycle from the stage and was going to pick a colleague to head somewhere, and as I slowed down to wait for the vehicles to overtake each other, the child was on a bicycle, and I was trying to overtake him, but eventually knocked him down. This was because two vehicles were overtaking each other,” Kabende said.
The father of the deceased, Onyango Titus, has appealed to authorities for support with burial arrangements and called for justice. He also urged security to ensure the suspect does not evade accountability while receiving treatment.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
