Four arrested over Soroti mobile money operator murder, Shs7m recovered

According to police, two suspects, Okello Alex and Onego Felix, were arrested on the same day of the incident, marking an early breakthrough in the case.

Soroti, Uganda: Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the aggravated robbery and fatal shooting of a mobile money operator in Soroti City, as investigations intensify into the high-profile killing that shocked the Teso sub-region.

In an update shared Monday morning, Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma confirmed that the suspects were apprehended in a coordinated operation involving multiple security agencies.

“The UPF wishes to update the public on the ongoing investigations into the aggravated robbery and murder by shooting of Kokunda Patricia, which was earlier brought to your attention,” ACP Kituuma said.

He revealed that the victim was attacked and killed in the early hours of April 3, 2026. “On 03/04/2026 at about 0440 hours, the victim was attacked, robbed, and fatally shot by armed assailants at Teso Coach Park along Station Road near Goalman Supermarket in Soroti City,” Kituuma stated.

According to police, two suspects, Okello Alex and Onego Felix, were arrested on the same day of the incident, marking an early breakthrough in the case.

Investigations later led to the arrest of Epeu Simon, also known as Iboda, in Anyara, Kalaki District, where authorities recovered UGX 7 million believed to be part of the stolen money.

“Since our initial communication, inquiries and the hunt for suspects were intensified by police and sister security agencies,” ACP Kituuma added.

In a significant development, police on April 4 arrested the suspected shooter, Elacu Alfred, in Orungo, Amuria District. Authorities also recovered the victim’s smartphone, which had been dumped in a bush in Kichinjani.

“Outstanding inquiries are ongoing to recover more key exhibits,” Kituuma said, signaling that the investigation is still active and more arrests could follow.

The killing of Kokunda Patricia had sparked fear among mobile money operators and renewed calls for enhanced security, particularly for agents handling large cash transactions in urban centres.
