Kamuli, Uganda: The Buzaaya Taxi Operators SACCO in Kamuli has unveiled a new initiative under the government-backed Emyooga programme, aimed at strengthening financial discipline and boosting income among its members.

The initiative was launched at Kamuli District Headquarters during an event officiated by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Rose Birungi, flanked by her Deputy Mafumo Adonia and Assistant RDC Batambuze John.

Addressing SACCO members, Birungi emphasised the importance of proper utilisation of Emyooga funds, warning against politicising government programmes.

“I urge all Emyooga beneficiaries to borrow a leaf from Buzaaya Taxi Operators SACCO members and avoid misusing the money,” she said.

She further called on members, particularly those in the taxi business, to uphold trust and accountability to ensure equitable access to benefits within the SACCO.

Deputy RDC Mafumo Adonia echoed the call, urging members to invest the funds productively to improve their livelihoods.

Buzaaya Taxi Operators SACCO Chairperson Daniel Wambuzi commended the government for introducing the Emyooga programme, describing it as a key driver of grassroots economic transformation.

“We thank the NRM government for introducing the Emyooga programme, which has the potential to boost economic growth,” Wambuzi said.

The Emyooga programme is a government initiative designed to create jobs, expand financial inclusion, and improve household incomes through organised SACCOs across various sectors.
