Kampala, Uganda: Edith Katende Mufumbiro, the wife of National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, has died after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Her death was announced by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, who said she passed away in the early hours of the morning at Mulago.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear sister and comrade, Edith Katende Mufumbiro,” Kyagulanyi said in a statement.
According to the statement, Edith died shortly after 3:00am following a prolonged illness.

Her passing comes at a time when her husband remains on remand at Luzira Upper Prison, where he is facing charges related to alleged unlawful activities.
Kyagulanyi criticised the continued detention of Mufumbiro, revealing that he had previously sought bail to care for his ailing wife, but his requests were not granted.
He further claimed that Mufumbiro was not present at the party headquarters on the day of the alleged offence, stating that he was at Mulago Cancer Institute attending to his wife.
The development has drawn sympathy from opposition figures and members of the public, with calls for support to the bereaved family during this difficult period.
