Kyankwanzi, Uganda: The Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon Frank Tumwebaze, has dismissed speculation about his health, clarifying that his recent slimmer appearance is the result of deliberate lifestyle changes and not illness.
In a message shared via X on Monday, April 13, Tumwebaze said he had received numerous “quick recovery” messages from friends and supporters concerned about his appearance.
“I am not sick. My new looks are intentional,” he stated, reassuring the public that he remains in good health.
‘Slim Does Not Mean Sick’
Tumwebaze used the moment to challenge what he described as a widespread misconception linking body size to health, warning that many people wrongly equate being overweight with being healthy while associating slimness with illness.
“The battle against non-communicable diseases is far from being won,” he said, urging health professionals—including nutritionists, epidemiologists, and health educators—to intensify public awareness.

He emphasised that weight loss should only raise concern when it is unintentional or linked to underlying illness, noting that deliberate weight reduction through diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes should instead be encouraged.
The minister described intentional weight loss as “one of the best health targets,” arguing that a lean body can be as strong, or even stronger, than a heavier one. He also cautioned against what he termed the glorification of excessive weight, stating: “Obesity has never been a badge of honor.”
Tumwebaze acknowledged that changes in physical appearance can sometimes alarm the public but said such reactions should not overshadow the broader goal of maintaining good health.
The Minister’s remarks come amid growing concern over the rise of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Uganda, including diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, conditions largely linked to lifestyle and dietary habits.
By sharing his personal experience, Tumwebaze said he hoped to encourage Ugandans to adopt healthier lifestyles and rethink attitudes towards body image and wellness. “It is well with me,” he added, expressing gratitude for life and good health.
