Two arrested over armed robbery at Luuka church

Preliminary investigations indicate that at around 1:30am, an armed suspect gained entry into the church premises by posing as a person seeking prayers for a sick relative.

Luuka, Uganda: Police in Luuka District have arrested two suspects in connection with an aggravated robbery at Elim Pentecostal Church in Bulanga Town Council, following a swift, coordinated security operation.

The suspects, identified as Kafuko Ashurawi and Bikundi Alex, were apprehended at Emmanson Lodge, about 500 metres from the crime scene, in an operation involving officers from Bulanga Police Station and the Canine Unit from Iganga.

According to Busoga North Police Spokesperson, SSP Samson Lubega, the robbery occurred in the early hours of May 2, 2026, at Elim Pentecostal Church in Bulanga Ward.

Preliminary investigations indicate that at around 1:30am, an armed suspect gained entry into the church premises by posing as a person seeking prayers for a sick relative.

Upon gaining access, the suspect attacked 66-year-old Assistant Presiding Pastor Mande Adison, physically assaulting and restraining him using improvised materials.

The assailant then made off with several church items, including a piano, three loudspeakers, and an amplifier, before fleeing the scene. The victim was later discovered tied up in the morning by members of the public, who alerted church leaders and police.

SS Lubega noted that investigations are ongoing to recover the stolen property and identify other possible accomplices. He cautioned the public against opening doors to unknown individuals, particularly at night, and urged residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
