Yumbe, Uganda: Police in Yumbe District have launched investigations into the sudden death of a 54-year-old Bangladeshi national discovered lifeless in a lodge room.
The deceased, identified as Poni Islam, was a resident of Lomunga Town Council and worked with WKK Company, a contractor on the Yumbe–Terego road project.
According to North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SP Collins Asea, the incident occurred at Ruvanna Inn Bar and Lodges, where the deceased had booked a room on May 1, 2026.
SP Asea said the body was discovered at around 7:00 AM on May 2 after a lodge attendant raised alarm over a phone ringing repeatedly inside the room without response.

“The manager approached the room, called out several times but got no response. The door was slightly open. Upon entering, she found the occupant lying motionless on the bed,” Asea said.
The watchman was alerted and confirmed the individual was dead before the matter was reported to police.
Officers from the homicide desk visited the scene, documented evidence, and recorded witness statements as part of ongoing investigations.
The body was later transported to Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police say no arrests have been made so far, and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
