Kamuli, Uganda: Police in Kamuli District have arrested a 46-year-old government teacher over allegations of defiling a Primary Seven pupil.
The suspect, identified as Waiswa Jonathan, is attached to Edhirumamwino Primary School in Balawoli Sub-county and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
According to preliminary findings, the alleged incident occurred after the pupil was reportedly sent to take food to the teacher. It is alleged that once inside the room, the suspect forced himself on the minor.
The pupil later reported the matter to the senior woman teacher, who raised alarm and notified authorities at Balawoli Police Station.
Police confirmed that the case was registered under SD REF:17/01/05/2026, with detectives already recording statements and gathering evidence.
Authorities say the suspect will face charges of defilement as investigations progress, while the victim is receiving support and care.
The case adds to growing concern over the safety of learners in schools, with police urging vigilance and prompt reporting of abuse cases.
