Kampala, Uganda: The National Basketball League enters a decisive stage this week as title contenders, playoff hopefuls and struggling sides battle for vital victories during an action-packed Game Week 14.
Fixtures will be played at Lugogo Indoor Arena, YMCA Wandegeya and ABJA Park Naalya between Wednesday and Sunday, with several top teams looking to strengthen their positions as the regular season nears its climax.
City Oilers Maintain Dominance
Ten-time champions City Oilers remain the benchmark in the men’s division after winning 14 of their 15 games this season.
The Oilers lead the standings with 29 points and head into Game Week 14 on a five-game winning streak.
Close behind are Namuwongo Blazers, who have won 13 of their 14 matches and boast the league’s highest-scoring offense with 1,104 points this season.
Rezlife Saints continue to surprise many after climbing to third place with 26 points, while KCCA Panthers and UCU Canons remain firmly in playoff contention.
At the lower end of the standings, Kampala Rockets, UPDF Tomahawks and UMU Flames are under pressure to improve results as the playoff race intensifies.
JT Lady Jaguars Lead Women’s Race
In the women’s division, JT Lady Jaguars lead the standings with 30 points after winning 14 of their 16 games. The Jaguars have been dominant on both ends of the court, scoring 1,086 points while conceding only 711.
However, UCU Lady Canons remain close behind with 28 points and two games in hand, keeping the title race alive.
KCCA Leopards and JKL Lady Dolphins also remain strong contenders after consistent performances throughout the campaign.
Wednesday Fixtures
At Lugogo Arena, Pearl Queens face JT Lady Jaguars in the women’s category.
The Jaguars enter as favourites due to their consistency and strong defensive record, while Pearl Queens hope recent improved form can inspire an upset.
In the men’s division, JT Jaguars take on Namuwongo Blazers in one of the week’s headline fixtures.
The Blazers arrive in excellent form after winning five straight matches and carrying the league’s best points difference at +309.
JT Jaguars, meanwhile, are desperate to revive their playoff ambitions after losing four of their last five games.
At ABJA Park, Miracle Eaglets face Magic Stormers, while KCCA Panthers battle Kampala Rockets in another crucial men’s clash.

Friday’s women’s action sees UCU Lady Canons take on Magic Stormers at Lugogo Arena.
Later, Sommet BC face UCU Canons in a key men’s contest that could significantly affect playoff positioning.
Both teams have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, making the encounter difficult to predict.
