Yumbe, Uganda: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abbas Byakagaba has urged police recruits undergoing training at Police Training School Ikafe in Yumbe District to embrace discipline, teamwork, and professionalism as they prepare to join the Uganda Police Force.
The IGP delivered the message during a Thursday visit to the training school, where he met recruit trainees who are nearing completion of their training and preparing for their pass-out parade.
During the visit, the recruits demonstrated their readiness in key policing skills, showcasing competencies acquired during the training programme.
Addressing the trainees, Byakagaba emphasized that effective policing requires collective effort, discipline and a clear understanding of the force’s mandate. “Excellence in service is built on teamwork, discipline and a clear sense of purpose,” the IGP told the recruits.
He reminded the future officers that peace and security remain the cornerstone of Uganda’s socio-economic transformation and national development agenda.
Byakagaba noted that every police officer has a critical responsibility in safeguarding lives, protecting property and maintaining public order.

The IGP further encouraged the trainees to foster unity and mutual support within the force, saying teamwork remains essential in addressing emerging security challenges.
He urged them to uphold integrity, professionalism and commitment to duty as they embark on their policing careers.
“Peace and security are the foundation of national progress, and every officer should play a crucial role in safeguarding them,” Byakagaba said.
The police chief also challenged the recruits to contribute towards Uganda’s development aspirations by providing effective and people-centred policing services. He called on them to embrace collective responsibility and remain focused on supporting the country’s ambition of advancing beyond lower-middle-income status.

The visit forms part of the Uganda Police Force leadership’s ongoing engagements with training institutions aimed at strengthening professionalism, discipline and operational readiness among officers.
Police Training School Ikafe is one of the key training facilities responsible for preparing recruits for service in various units across the country.
