Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Uganda’s Teen Cranes completed a flawless group stage campaign at the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship with a commanding 4-0 victory over South Sudan on Thursday, securing top spot in Group B with maximum points.
The Ugandan starlets maintained their impressive form as Shadia Nabirye and Justine Ayerango each scored a brace to guide the defending champions to their third consecutive victory of the tournament.
Already assured of a place in the semi-finals before kick-off, the Teen Cranes showed no signs of slowing down, dominating proceedings against South Sudan to finish the group stage with nine points from three matches.
Nabirye opened the scoring before Ayerango added another as Uganda took firm control of the contest. The duo completed their doubles later in the match to seal a comfortable victory and underline Uganda’s attacking prowess.
The result means Uganda finish ahead of Somalia, who secured second place in Group B with six points, while South Sudan ended third and Djibouti finished bottom without a point.
Uganda’s perfect group-stage record has seen them score freely while maintaining defensive solidity, strengthening hopes of retaining the regional title.
Head coach Sheryl Botes’ side has now won all three group matches and heads into the knockout stages as one of the tournament favourites.

The Teen Cranes will now face hosts Tanzania in the semi-finals on Sunday at Chamazi Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Uganda will be seeking another victory to book a place in the final and move one step closer to successfully defending the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship crown.
