London, UK: Defending champions Arsenal will begin their 2026/27 Premier League title defence against newly promoted Coventry City after the English top flight officially released its fixture list for the new season on Friday.
The fixture announcement gives clubs and supporters their first glimpse of the road ahead in what promises to be another highly competitive campaign featuring reigning champions Arsenal, traditional rivals Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea, alongside promoted sides Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City.
Arsenal enter the season as champions for the first time in 22 years after ending Manchester City’s dominance last term, and will face a Coventry side returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2001 under manager Frank Lampard.
The release of the fixtures also officially starts the countdown to the new Premier League season, which will begin on August 22, 2026, and conclude on May 30, 2027. League officials pushed the start date back by one week to allow players additional recovery time following the ongoing FIFA World Cup in North America.
The 2026/27 campaign will consist of 33 weekend match rounds and five midweek rounds, while the Premier League has maintained its commitment to ensuring at least 60 hours between festive fixtures during the Christmas and New Year period to ease player workload.
This season will also usher in a number of new managerial eras across England’s top flight. Manchester United begin a full campaign under Michael Carrick, while Chelsea embark on a new chapter under former Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso.
For promoted clubs Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City, the fixture release marks the beginning of their bid to establish themselves in the top flight and avoid an immediate return to the Championship. Coventry’s opening-day clash against Arsenal will immediately test their credentials against the league champions.
Arsenal’s supporters will also have one eye on the Community Shield, where Mikel Arteta’s side are scheduled to face Manchester City on August 16 before launching their Premier League campaign six days later.
The fixture release traditionally sparks excitement among fans as they identify title-defining runs, derby dates, festive schedules, and crucial end-of-season encounters that could shape the battle for silverware, European qualification, and survival.
