Iganga, Uganda: Police in Iganga District have arrested a 19-year-old security guard over the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old boda boda rider following a disagreement at a supermarket in Nakigo Sub-county.

The suspect, Kirya Edrine Shakul, is attached to Centurion Security Company and resides in Kiyunga Village, Kisozi Sub-county, Kamuli District. The deceased has been identified as Mulwana Nuraini, a boda boda rider.

The shooting occurred at around 11:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Bugabwe Village, Nakigo Sub-county, according to police.

Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha said preliminary investigations indicate that Mulwana had gone to a supermarket where Kirya was deployed on guard duty.

“According to preliminary findings, the deceased visited a supermarket where Kirya was stationed on guard duty. Kirya requested the deceased to leave; however, his plea was disregarded,” ASP Kasadha said.

“Subsequently, the deceased allegedly engaged in a verbal confrontation with the security guard, which prompted Kirya to discharge a single bullet that struck Mulwana Nuraini in the lower jaw, resulting in death,” Kasadha added, before confirming that the victim died at the scene.

The incident caused panic among residents after news of the shooting spread through WhatsApp groups and local radio stations on Saturday morning.

A team of detectives led by the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) at Iganga Central Police Station visited and documented the scene.
