Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has held a strategic engagement with the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) to strengthen collaboration on business formalisation, with a particular focus on supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) registered on the Authority’s national investment portal.
The meeting brought together officials from the two government agencies to identify areas of mutual interest and develop a framework for closer institutional cooperation aimed at improving Uganda’s business environment.
According to URSB Assistant Commissioner Registration Services, Ms. Stellah Kakwezi Olimi, a key area of discussion was how the Bureau can support the formalisation of SMEs already registered on UIA’s national portal by facilitating access to business registration services, legal compliance and other statutory requirements needed for enterprises to operate within the formal economy.
The partnership is expected to simplify the transition of businesses from the informal sector into the formal economy, enabling entrepreneurs to benefit from government programmes, financial services, investment opportunities and expanded market access.

Officials also explored ways of integrating services offered by the two institutions to reduce bureaucratic barriers for investors and entrepreneurs, while promoting a more coordinated approach to enterprise development.
The collaboration aligns with government’s broader agenda of improving the ease of doing business, strengthening private sector growth and encouraging more Ugandans to establish sustainable and legally compliant enterprises.
