Zombo: Police orders temporary shutdown of business, traffic for nationwide clean-up drive

Zombo, Uganda: Police in Zombo District have announced a temporary suspension of business activities and traffic movement within Paidha Town Council to facilitate the nationwide National Cleaning Day exercise scheduled for Saturday, July 25, 2026.

The directive, issued by Zombo District Police Commander (DPC) Job Mutegeki, will take effect from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., in line with the government’s nationwide campaign to promote environmental cleanliness, improve public health and prevent diseases associated with poor sanitation.

According to Mutegeki, all residents, traders, motorists, institutions and community leaders are expected to fully comply with the directive and actively participate in the cleaning exercise.

He said traffic movement within Paidha Town Council will be suspended during the exercise, with buses, taxis, boda bodas, bicycles and lorries prohibited from operating on roads. Movement on water bodies will also be halted, except in cases of genuine emergencies.

The police commander explained that the temporary restrictions are intended to ensure maximum public participation and effective implementation of the government’s sanitation campaign.

Mutegeki urged residents to remain within their respective communities and dedicate the morning hours to cleaning their surroundings, emphasizing that the exercise is a shared responsibility aimed at creating a healthier and cleaner environment.

He added that normal business operations and traffic movement will resume after 10:00 a.m. once the cleaning exercise has concluded.

The National Cleaning Day initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen environmental conservation, improve sanitation standards and reduce the spread of preventable diseases linked to poor waste management and unhygienic surroundings.
