Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia: King’s College Budo student Nsibirwa Sira Jeremiah has won a bronze medal at the 2026 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, marking another major achievement for Uganda on the global academic stage.
Nsibirwa secured third place in the prestigious competition, which attracted more than 1,000 outstanding young mathematicians from 46 countries, further cementing Uganda’s growing reputation in global academic competitions.
In another impressive performance for the school, Talindeka Kiguba Jethro, also of King’s College Budo, received a Merit Award at the prestigious international competition.
The Ugandan delegation comprised 13 students drawn from King’s College Budo, Gayaza High School, Uganda Martyrs Secondary School Namugongo, Ndejje Senior Secondary School and St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK).
The team earned the opportunity to represent Uganda after excelling in the Uganda Maths Contest and the Uganda National Science Olympiad, competitions organized by the Uganda Mathematical Society and the Science Olympiad Foundation Uganda, respectively.
The International Mathematics Competition brings together some of the world’s brightest young mathematicians, providing a platform for participants to test their analytical, logical reasoning and problem-solving abilities against peers from across the globe.
The latest success adds to a string of international accolades for King’s College Budo. Just days ago, the school’s student Ian Karlton Muyimba made history by winning a bronze medal at the 2026 International Public Speaking Competition in London, becoming the first African contestant to finish among the competition’s top three after advancing from participants representing 45 countries and regions.
Muyimba’s achievement, coupled with the mathematics success in Mongolia, solidify the school’s growing excellence in both STEM and communication, reinforcing its reputation as one of Uganda’s leading centres for academic and co-curricular achievement.
Education stakeholders have increasingly encouraged learners to participate in international academic competitions, saying such achievements not only raise Uganda’s profile globally but also inspire more students to pursue excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
