Wakiso, Uganda: Police in Nsangi Division have arrested 11 suspects in connection with the aggravated robbery and rape of a woman during a predawn attack in Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.
The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on July 28, 2026, in Nakirama Cell, where an unidentified assailant allegedly broke into the complainant’s shop before attacking her with a knife.
According to police, the attacker demanded money and threatened to inflict grievous harm if the victim failed to comply. After robbing her, the suspect allegedly raped the victim before fleeing the scene.
The victim later reported the incident to Kikajo Police Post, prompting the deployment of detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Scene of Crime Officers and the Police Canine Unit.
Police said the crime scene was found intact and properly preserved, allowing investigators to gather crucial evidence.
A police sniffer dog, TP 297 Sofia, was introduced at the victim’s bedroom, where the assault is believed to have taken place.
The canine successfully picked up the suspect’s scent and tracked it for approximately one kilometre before leading officers to a nearby bar.
At the premises, officers found more than 10 individuals who were reportedly intoxicated.
Police said the sniffer dog positively identified one of the individuals by sitting beside him, prompting officers to arrest all those present to facilitate further investigations.
The 11 suspects were taken into custody at Kikajo Police Post, where they remain as investigators work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the attack and identify the principal offender.
Police said investigations into the aggravated robbery and rape are ongoing.
