Kampala, Uganda: Victoria University Kampala, one of Uganda’s leading private varsities, has issued a public warning distancing itself from a fraudulent circular circulating on social media that falsely claims to provide tuition and other fees for Higher Education Certificate (HEG) Computer students for the July Trimester 2026.
In a statement released by the university’s management on Wednesday, the institution described the document as fake and cautioned parents, guardians and prospective students against making any payments based on its contents.
The forged circular, dated May 14, 2026, purports to originate from the university’s Marketing Department and bears the forged signature of “Mr. Ishmael Ssemakula, Head of Marketing.” It also contains fabricated tuition details and payment instructions.
Victoria University emphasized that the document did not originate from the institution or any of its officials. “This circular is FAKE and did not originate from Victoria University or any of its officers,” the university said.
The university clarified that it does not communicate tuition fee structures or payment instructions through unsolicited circulars shared on WhatsApp or other social media platforms.
Instead, all official communication regarding tuition, admissions and payments is issued through the university’s verified communication channels, including its official website, institutional email addresses, and the offices of the Academic Registrar and Student Accounts.
Management urged members of the public to independently verify any communication requesting tuition payments before taking any action.
“No one should make any payment based on this or any similar circulating document without first verifying it directly with the University,” the statement added.
The university further encouraged parents, guardians and prospective students to immediately report any suspicious communication for verification, reiterating that inquiries regarding tuition and other fees should only be made through its official contacts.
The warning comes amid increasing cases of cyber fraud and impersonation targeting educational institutions, where fraudsters circulate forged admission letters, fee structures and payment instructions in an attempt to deceive unsuspecting students and parents.
Victoria University urged the public to remain vigilant and rely only on verified institutional communication channels.
