Kampala, Uganda: The Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Henry Musasizi, has challenged Enterprise Uganda to harness digital technology to expand entrepreneurship development programmes and ensure more Ugandans benefit from business support services.
Musasizi made the call during a meeting with the Enterprise Uganda Board and Management, led by Board Chairperson Richard Byarugaba and Executive Director Charles Ocici, where discussions centred on the institution’s contribution to entrepreneurship development and its strategic role in advancing Uganda’s private sector-led growth agenda.
Established 25 years ago with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Enterprise Uganda is the country’s leading institution for entrepreneurship development and the provision of Business Development Services (BDS).
During the meeting, Musasizi commended Enterprise Uganda for its contribution to strengthening Uganda’s private sector and praised the Board for promoting sound corporate governance and professional leadership.
The minister, however, urged the institution to embrace digital platforms as a means of reaching more entrepreneurs across the country.
He said leveraging digital technologies would enable Enterprise Uganda to expand the delivery of entrepreneurship services, strengthen post-training mentorship programmes and provide continuous business support that helps entrepreneurs build resilient and sustainable enterprises.
Musasizi noted that digital transformation presents an opportunity to increase access to business development services, particularly for young entrepreneurs and businesses operating outside major urban centres.
Minister of State for Planning Amos Lugoloobi also called for stronger monitoring and evaluation systems to enable Enterprise Uganda to effectively demonstrate its impact and attract greater investment from both the public and private sectors.
He emphasised the importance of transparent reporting and evidence-based performance measurement as key drivers of institutional growth and sustainability.
Lugoloobi further proposed integrating entrepreneurship education into secondary schools, universities and tertiary institutions to equip young Ugandans with practical business and financial management skills before they enter the labour market.
He also recommended introducing orientation programmes for newly elected Members of Parliament focusing on financial management, investment planning and wealth creation to strengthen economic leadership.
The ministers reaffirmed the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to supporting Enterprise Uganda as a strategic implementation partner in promoting entrepreneurship, enterprise development and inclusive economic transformation.
The meeting underscored government’s continued emphasis on entrepreneurship as a key pillar for job creation, private sector growth and Uganda’s long-term economic development agenda.
