Cairo, Egypt: Uganda’s continental representatives in the 2026/27 CAF inter-club competitions, Vipers SC and Kitara FC, have learnt their opponents following Thursday’s official draws conducted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Cairo.
StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC were drawn against Mauritanian champions FC Nouadhibou in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The Venoms will begin their continental campaign against one of Mauritania’s most experienced clubs, with the winner progressing to the first round to face either San Pedro of Ivory Coast or Rivers United of Nigeria.
For Uganda Cup winners Kitara FC, a preliminary-round tie against Mogadishu Sports Club of Somalia awaits in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The first leg is scheduled to be played between October 16 and 18, while the return leg will take place between October 23 and 25, with Kitara set to host the decisive second leg in Hoima.
Should the Royals eliminate the Somali side, they will earn a blockbuster first-round clash against Egyptian giants Al Ahly, one of Africa’s most decorated football clubs.
The draws also produced several other intriguing fixtures across the continent.
Egypt’s ZED FC will take on ASAS Djibouti, with the winner advancing to face Tanzania’s Azam FC.
Elsewhere, Al Hilal Alsahil were paired with Welwalo Adigrat, Al Ahli Madani will face Kenyan champions Tusker FC, Panthère Sportive take on Rwanda’s Rayon Sports, Red Arrows meet FC Rouge, while Durban City will battle Rukinzo.
The CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup remain Africa’s premier club competitions, with the eventual winners earning qualification to the FIFA Intercontinental Cup as well as the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, offering clubs the opportunity to compete on the global stage.
Uganda will be hoping both Vipers and Kitara can navigate the preliminary rounds and progress deeper into the continental competitions after recent seasons of mixed fortunes for the country’s representatives.
