KAMPALA, UGANDA: First Lady Janet Museveni has appeared in new photographs shared by her daughter Natasha Museveni Karugire, offering a rare recent glimpse of her as she continues to recover from a serious health episode disclosed by President Museveni.

The photographs, shared by Natasha on Instagram, show the First Lady standing and smiling alongside family members. In one of the images, Natasha, dressed in a yellow sleeveless top, stands beside her mother with her arm around her.

Natasha accompanied the photographs with a brief message expressing gratitude, writing: “Thank you LORD Jesus!”

The images are among the clearest recent public photographs of Mrs Museveni following months of limited public appearances.

President Museveni disclosed on June 24, while celebrating his wife’s 78th birthday, that she had suffered a serious health episode on March 21, 2026. “God, using good doctors, saved Maama’s life and she is now recovering well,” Museveni said then.

The President did not disclose the nature of the illness or where his wife received treatment.

A day after the disclosure, on June 25, Museveni appointed State Minister for Higher Education John Chrysostom Muyingo as Acting Minister of Education and Sports, a portfolio held by the First Lady.

Janet Museveni has served as Minister of Education and Sports since 2016.

Her prolonged absence from several public engagements had attracted attention before the President publicly disclosed her health challenge.

The latest photographs, together with Natasha’s message of gratitude, provide a fresh public indication of the First Lady’s recovery following the March health scare.
