Kenya claimed victory over Uganda at the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series Migingo Skirmishes in Limuru, but the bigger story was the friendships, business connections and regional partnerships forged beyond the fairways.

In Summary: The second season of the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series Migingo Skirmishes brought together 252 golfers from Uganda and Kenya at Limuru Country Club, celebrating the role of sport in strengthening regional friendships, business connections and cross-border collaboration. Kenya claimed the overall team victory, but organisers and participants said the tournament’s wider achievement was bringing East African golfing communities closer.

Kampala, Uganda — A total of 252 golfers from Uganda and Kenya gathered at Limuru Country Club in Kenya on Saturday, October 31, 2026, for the second season of the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series Migingo Skirmishes, in an event that combined sporting competition with efforts to strengthen regional relationships.

The participants were evenly split between the two countries, with 126 golfers representing each side.

The tournament marked the fourth cross-border engagement under the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series, with Limuru Country Club hosting for the second time. Previous regional engagements have also been held at Kigali Golf Resort & Villas in Rwanda and Entebbe Club in Uganda.

Kenya’s Limuru Country Club emerged overall team winners with 36 points, beating Team Uganda, which finished with 12 points. The competition was played under a match-play format, with each team victory earning one point and a tied match earning half a point.

The team competition also recognised the biggest-margin winning pair, Daniel Kanyu and Renaldo D’Souza, who registered a 10/8 victory.

In the individual competition, Victor Oduor won Men Group C with 44 points, while Winnie topped Ladies Group B with 39 points. Andrew Koech claimed Men Group B with 43 points, tying with runner-up Nelson Githinji.

Elizabeth Gak won Ladies Group A with 39 points, while former Uganda Golf Union president Moses Matisiko took Men Group A with 37 points, tying with runner-up Brian Sumbi.

Beyond the scorecard, the tournament offered Ugandan golfers, many of whom participated in the inaugural edition in November 2024, an opportunity to return to a transformed Limuru Country Club. The return carried added significance following a fire that destroyed the club’s clubhouse just weeks after it hosted the inaugural edition of the series.

Limuru Country Club Chairman Geoffrey Githinji welcomed the continued partnership between the Kenyan and Ugandan golfing communities, saying the event provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships beyond the competition.

“Events such as this go beyond the competition; they give us an opportunity to interact, build lasting friendships and strengthen the relationship between our two golfing communities. We hope this partnership continues to grow and that the series will bring even more golfers together in the years ahead,” he said.

I&M Bank Group Regional Chief Executive Officer Kihara Maina, a Limuru member and initiator of the Migingo Skirmishes, said regional initiatives were important in bringing East African markets closer together.

“As businesses increasingly look beyond their home markets, these connections can open doors and create new opportunities across the region. This regional approach is also reflected in how we serve our customers. Through solutions such as IMBRISK, we make it easier for customers to access and move their money across I&M Bank’s network in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. This is one way we support customers who travel, trade and do business across borders,” Kihara said.

He also suggested that organisers consider hosting the next edition at a neutral golf course, noting that home-course advantage can influence the outcome of the competition.

I&M Bank Uganda Chief Executive Officer Robin Barstow said the Migingo Skirmishes held a special place in the history of the Katogo Golf Series because it marked the beginning of its cross-border engagements.

“When I&M Bank Uganda partnered with Katogo in 2023, we did not imagine that the series would grow into one of the most sought-after golfing events in the country and even extend beyond our borders. It is encouraging to see how far we have come. With the continued support of our partners and the golfing fraternity in general, I believe the series can only get better,” Barstow said.

Uganda Golf Union President Dr Jackson Were, who participated in the tournament, applauded the organisers and I&M Bank for deliberately creating opportunities for golfers across the region to interact.

“Golf in Uganda continues to grow across all categories, from ladies and amateur golf to the professional level. We are seeing more people take up the game, and platforms like the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series give us a chance to connect with golfers from the region and share in that growth,” he said.

I&M Bank CEO, Robin Bairstow, speaks at the after-partee.

Katogo Captain Elly Mukasa said one of the most rewarding aspects of the series had been seeing golfers embrace opportunities to play in new environments, meet new people and build lasting friendships.

“We are now looking to the future. With the renewed I&M Bank partnership, I believe we will go places. Most of us had never imagined we would come this far, but the support and opportunities along the way have been incredible. We are excited about what lies ahead for Katogo and the golfers who are part of this journey,” he said.

I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Annette Nakiyaga said the success of the second season reflected the bank’s commitment to supporting initiatives that bring customers together beyond banking.

“It is also important that as our customers travel for such events, they can enjoy convenient banking wherever they are. Our multicurrency prepaid cards, for instance, made it easier to pay for services at the club, hotels, and different venues. This is part of our commitment to being On Your Side, wherever life takes you,” she said.

Uganda Golf Union President, Dr Jackson Were (speaking), graced the occasion.

The tournament concluded with a denim-and-white-themed 19th Hole experience hosted by Kenyan comedian and master of ceremonies Professor Hamo.

Guests enjoyed food, drinks, music and entertainment, while a traditional dance performance by the Ugandan contingent added a cultural touch to the evening.

The Migingo Skirmishes was supported by East African Breweries Limited, RwandAir, Fenon, Nairobi Serena, Pepsi Kenya and NBS Sport.
