KAMPALA: Human Rights lawyer and activist Nicholas Opiyo has been denied bail and sent back to prison until Jan 11, 2021.
Opiyo who is on remand on allegations of money laundering appeared at Buganda Road Court via Zoom from Kitalya prison.
Opio a renowned critic of government over human rights violations was arrested by plain-clothed operatives on Tuesday 22 December, 2020 from Lamaro Restaurant in Kamokya, a Kampala suburb where he was having lunch with his colleagues.
He was taken to the Police Special Investigations Department headquarters in Kireka together with four other human rights defenders.
