Uganda Police has announced that the force will dig out the body of Bobi Wine’s fallen security guard Frank Senteza just hours after his burials to do postmortem and establish the exact cause of his death.
Sentenza who was a member of the security team of NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine was allegedly knocked dead by UPDF vehicle in Natete on Sunday afternoon as the forces tried to close down on Bobi Wine’s car.
“We have now started the process of obtaining a court order to exhume the body of the victim for post mortem analysis, to classify the cause of death and the nature of injuries,” said Police spokesperson Fred Enanga in a statement this Monday night.
“The initiative is also a great opportunity for our task teams of investigators to make sure all the different parts of the investigations are completed,” he emphasised.
The development comes amid claims by Bobi Wine’s supporters that Senteza was “deliberately knocked dead in Busega by a military vehicle as we drove from Masaka to Kampala to get further treatment for Kasirye Ashraf” who was earlier injured in a fracas with police in Masaka.
The Daily Express understands that investigators from various security agencies have been camped in Busega to probe Senteza’s death.
Enanga today said the task teams actively investigating the matter, faced a setback, after the victim was buried at the ancestral home along Villa road, in Kalungu District, without being examined on post mortem.
“Yesterday 27.12.2020, the body of the victim was released with post mortem forms, by Rubaga Hospital to close relatives and NUP members for them to transfer the body to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem analysis. Unfortunately, they diverted the Ambulance and the body of the victim to the NUP offices in Kamwokya, where a vigil was held,” said Enanga.
“The body was thereafter, transferred to the deceased’s ancestral home in Kalungu Villa Road, for burial. Several engagements with the family including Major General Elly Kayanja, granted permission for a post mortem examination to be carried out in Masaka,” he added.
Enanga said a team of police pathologists today flew by chopper to Masaka to conduct a joint postmortem analysis with family doctors, to help classify the cause of death and the nature of injuries.
“Despite clearance from the family, several NUP supporters who were aggressive blocked police efforts to have the body of the deceased examined by a joint team of medical experts,” he observed.
“They proceeded to bury the victim, without postmortem examination. We are disturbed by the conduct of these supporters in blocking the postmortem examination.”
Videos released by NUP showed Senteza’s body covered in blood in the busy Busega town.
“We need to remain firm,” said Bobi as he delivered the news to People Power supporters.
Busega is among the towns covered by security CCTV cameras in Kampala Metropolitan Area.
Sections of the public have since urged authorities to study CCTV footage from the area as part of investigations into the incident.
