2021 ELECTION WATCH: The Electoral Commission has today (Saturday) acquired over thirty eight thousand (38,000) biometric machines to be used during election polls slated for Jan 14 2021.
This was revealed by the EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama at the public demonstration of the electoral voting materials held in Kampala today.
Byabaka said out the consignment, 2000 units have been purchased while 36500 have been leased from a leading technology firm based in the Netherlands.
“Out of the 38000 consignment of the biometric machines, we have purchased 2000 units while 36500 have been re-leased from Smartmatic International Holding B.V which is a leading technology firm based in the Netherlands.” EC Chair Byabaka said at the press conference.
“The Biometric voter verification machines will be employed at each of the 34684 polling stations in the country during the upcoming general elections”.
“The system will help the commission to greatly improve the identification of voters and also address the challenge of voter impersonation during the elections.” added Byabakama.
Uganda will go the polls starting 14th January 2021 to cast votes for the President, Member of Parliaments for constituency and district parliamentary representatives.
