Two Accused of Killing Kabale Police Officer face 100 Years in jail

KABALE DISTRICT, UGANDA: The UPDF Court Martial has sentenced two men accused of killing a police officer to 100 years in prison after being of 3 counts of murder, aggravated robbery and kidnap after they pleaded guilty.

The two who appeared today before the army court chaired by Lt. Col Emmanuel Mwesigwa at Makenke in Mbarara are; Paul Dusingizimana alias Never Give Up aged 27, a resident Murambi village, Nyakinama Sub County and Mukwenda Asiimwe Mugisha alias Young, aged 19, a resident of Gatete village in Burora Sub County in Kisoro district.

On January 27th, the two are said to have murdered in cold blood special police constable Galacious Baryabakabo, who was deployed at Kabale district electoral commission offices, before they took off with his gun and 30 rounds of ammunition.

They were later tracked down by police and the gun and bullets recovered with them on 31st of January 2021.

The court heard that the duo after they incident used the gun to rob Shs 300,000 shillings from one Rachael Kyomugisha, a resident of Kabale Municipality and kidnapped one Patrick Arinaitwe also using the same gun.

The duo pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for a lenient sentence.

But in his ruling, Lt Col Mwesigwa handed them 100 years for murder, 70 years for aggravated robbery and 30 years for kidnap, which are to be served concurrently.

After the court ruling the UPDF second Division Spokesperson Maj. Charles Kabona told our reporter that the duo have a right to appeal before general court martial within a period of 14 days.

He said that the duo has been handed over to Uganda prisons service where they will serve their sentence.
