Speaking to the press today, Police Spokersperson confirmed the arrest of former presidnetial candidate together with other party officials who he says were leading unlawful processions within Kampala.

“It is true Hon. Kyagulanyi has been arrested with the NUP spokesperson Joel Senyonyi and eight others for taking part in unlawful processions in the central business district of Kampala,” said Enanga in a press briefing at Naguru.

Kyagulanyi and his group were protesting ‘the abduction, torture and murder of NUP supporters.

Bobi Wine and his group shortly before being arrested.

According to Enanga, the former presidential candidate seems not to be aware that the political season elapsed “and the public is now focused on economic transformation and improving their livelihoods.”

Police says the suspects never informed them of their planed protests which attracted the actions by security personnel that have been taken.

“Organisers of such demonstrations have on several occasions failed to notify the police. It’s not just announcing that we are going to organise a peaceful procession. Come out strongly and work with police so that the processions are not hijacked by hooligans and perpetrators of violence,” Enanga said.

He also emphasized that the city is very peaceful and people are going about their usual businesses following the fatigue that they have been going through in the past political season.
