HIGH COURT | KAMPALA: The High Court through its Civil Division has on Friday ruled to allow the widow to the Late city lawyer Robert ‘Bob’ Kasango proceed the burial of her husband in Fort Portal, Kabarole district.
Mrs. Nice Bitarabeho Kasango, the widow to the deceased had petitioned the court seeking orders to be granted permission to bury her late husband in Gweri Village, Burahaya county in Kabarole district.
In this suit in which Rosie Kabise (Kasango’s biological mother) is listed as the respondent, the widow had asked court to consider among others, the fact that she is the wife of the deceased, had three children him, and therefore should be allowed to bury her husband at their family home.
Mrs. Kasango had asked the court to issue a “restraining order against the Respondent (Rosie Kabise) or any one claiming any rights through her from interfering with the applicant (widow) from burying the late Robert Aldrige Kasango in Gweri Village Burahaya county Fort Portal city, Kabarole district.”
Kasango succumbed to heart complications on February 27 at Luzira prison, where he was serving a 16-year jail sentence.
After his funeral service on March 2, mourners from Tororo grabbed the coffin containing the body of Kasango, put it on a truck and fled towards Tororo but were later intercepted by police.
The mother insisted that her son should be buried at his ancestral home in Tororo, but the wife demanded that the burial takes place at their home in Kabarole.
The relatives headed by the mother overpowered the Widow with children and went off with the body but later Police intervened and the body was taken back to A Plus funeral home in Mengo.
