MP Odonga Otto charged, remanded to Gulu Central Prison

PADER – Aruu County MP in Pader District Samuel Odonga Otto has been charged and remanded to Gulu Central Prison until April 6, 2021. 

Otto appeared Friday (March 26, 2021), before Pader Grade One Magistrate, Edward Akwankwasa Kabayo, on charges of malicious damage to property and assault.

As he took plea to the charges, there was heavy police deployment within and around court premises and he (Odonga) was remanded to Gulu Central Prison till April 6, 2021.

The legislator is also expected to appear in Gulu Grade One magistrate court, to face an assault case involving Ojok Geoffrey Okot, a Gulu-based journalist.

Odonga was arrested from Bomah Hotel in Gulu on Monday, where he had gone to Gym and taken to Gulu central police station over the allegation of illegal possession of firearms, assaulting a driver in Pader in 2018 and a journalist during FUFA drum in 2019.

He was later taken to Jinja central police station and yesterday driven to Pader central police station where he spent the night.  He was taken to court.

According to Francis Olugu, the Deputy Director Criminal Investigation Uganda Police, police medical experts examined MP Odonga’s mental status and he was found mentally upright.
