STATE HOSUE, NAKASERO – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni, have finally taken their first Covid-19 jabs of the Astra Zeneca coronavirus vaccine.
The president’s physician, and Health Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Diana Atwine administered the first vaccine doses to both the president and the first lady at State Lodge, Nakasero on Saturday morning.
Museveni now joins several others senior leaders and frontline workers to take vaccine which arrived in the country earlier this month.
Vaccination of top government leaders has long been pointed out as one of the ways of convincing Ugandans who have concerns about the safety of the vaccine.
The Health Ministry is currently vaccinating health workers, lawmakers, teachers, and people aged 70 years and above concurrently against COVID-19.
According to Health Minister Dr Ruth Aceng, vaccination is taking place at designated public health facilities which include health center Ills, IVs, General Hospitals, Regional Referral Hospitals and National Referral Hospitals.
On March26, Aceng said 32,526, people had so far received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and the Ministry looked forward to vaccinating the entire population.
