Kawempe MP-elect Ssegirinya Muhammad to appear in court today

The Kawempe North elected Member of Parliament Ssegirinya Muhammed alias ‘Mr. Update’ will today appear in court for his bail application hearing after spending the last two weeks in Kitalya prison.

Ssegirinya was arrested on Monday, March 22, 2021, from Mini Price, downtown Kampala for unlawfully leading a protest in Kampala demanding the release of National Unity Platform supporters who are detained in various facilities across the country.

He was on the following day arraigned before Buganda road court grade one Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu and charged with inciting violence.

Ssegirinya who pleaded innocent was then remanded to Kitalya government prison until the 8th of April (today) to reappear in court for his bail application hearing.

Prosecution alleges Muhammad Segirinya and others still at large on 22nd March at Mini price in Kampala district committed an act calculated to incite violence against other persons by holding placards demanding for their presidential victory, Free Mubiru James, Nubian Lee, Eddy Mutwe by reasons of their political opinions.
