President Yoweri Museveni will tomorrow, Friday, delivered a national address focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic and matters of national interest, the Uganda Media Centre has said in a tweet sent out on Thursday afternoon.
According to the tweet, the address will be broadcast at 8pm airing live on television and radio stations.
“President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will Address the Nation on #COVID19 and matters of national interest tomorrow, April 16, 2021, from the National Leadership Institute (NALI) – Kyankwanzi at 8.00 pm,” reads a tweet from Uganda Media Centre.
Museveni, currently at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership retreat is expected to among others give an update on whether the curfew time will be maintained at 9 pm-5:30 am in the morning or relaxed.
Businesses like bars also remain closed and it’s not yet clear when they will be re-opened.
“The President will in the coming days be addressing the Nation with more details on this matter of curfew, where we are in the fight against Covid 19 and what more steps need to be taken to keep our people safe,” Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda recently said.
While the government is aware of the impact of the continued movement restrictions, the prime minister noted, scientists maintain that “the threat and scourge of Covid-19 is still very much with us.”
According to the ministry of health, on April 14, 26 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed, bringing the total to 41,263. 40898 people have recovered and the respiratory illness has claimed 338 lives.
