The National Unity Platform (NUP) has revealed the Leader of Opposition (LOP) and other committee chairs in the 11th Parliament will be announced this week.
This was confirmed by Joel Ssenyonyi the party spokesperson who said, “Before this week ends, we shall have decided who will be the Leader Of Position (LOP) and other positions”.
The other positions include Chief Whip, the four accountability committees: the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Committee on Commissions Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE), Local Government Accounts Committee (LGAC) and Committee on Government Assurances.
He revealed that during their retreat in Jinja, they set up a special committee headed by Mathias Mpuuga, the party vice president in charge of the Central region. The committee will vet any of the candidates that want leadership positions in the 11th Parliament.
Being the opposition party with the majority Members of Parliament, NUP has the privilege of electing the LOP amongst its MPs.
Ssenyonyi also the elected MP for Nakawa West disclosed that as they decide on these posts, they will use the same opportunity and announce their stand if they are to front a speaker candidate or to back other candidates.
