Reverend arrested for holding illegal church service against Covid-19 SOPs

KANUNGU:– Police in Kanungu District on Sunday, June 13, 2021, arrested Rev. Sunday Kanyankore 50 and a Lay reader Nabimanya Christopher 42 of Kanyamuganga Church of Uganda for defying the Presidential directives on fighting COVID-19.

These according to Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson were arrested upon a tip off to the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) from the locals.

Maate adds that the Police arrested Reverend Kanyankore red handed in church at around 12.15pm baptizing many children in the presence of their parents.

Rev Kanyankore was charged for doing an act likely to spread coronavirus and disobedience of lawful orders.

Maate told this reporter that the suspcts were released on police bond because of old age and will apear in Court once inquiries are complete.

The case of doing act likely to spread Coronavirus has since been registered at Kanungu Central Police station under reference number CRB 301/2021.
