KABAROLE DISTRICT: A bodaboda man in Nyansozi village Kabarole district has been shot dead by a UPDF Private soldier at the Bunyangabu-Kabarole border as he tried to flout the inter-district travel ban order to cross into another district.

Samuel Kusemererwa, an LCI chairman for Kibede village said the deceased was shot on Monday by a security operative in UPDF uniform at Kibede trading center where the traffic personnel has mounted a roadblock to enforce the inter-travel movement ban between Kabarole and Bunyangabu District. He said the UPDF soldier has not yet been identified.

It should be noted President Museveni in his June 6th Presidential Address ordered the closure of schools and the suspension of non-essential travel between districts in an attempt to prevent the overwhelming spike in Covid-19 cases in the country.

In one of the guidelines issued out, the President imposed a 42-day travel ban barring all inter-district public transport effective 10th June sparing only travels in Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso districts as one of the measures to curb the pandemic.

According to the security plan, police have already mobilised more than 500 armed and non-armed personnel per district to carry out the enforcement of the guidelines.

“The traffic commanders of every district have data on public transport vehicles operating in their jurisdiction. They know the traffic flow on each road. With such data, we can’t fail to execute the guidelines,” Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga a few days ago.
