Village Chairperson murdered in cold blood over land wrangles

RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri district have arrested a 29-year-old on allegations of killing the village Chairperson over land wrangles in the area.

Tumanye Kennedy, resident of Kyaruhotora cell in Burora parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county in Rukungiri district is suspected to have knowledge about the death of Samuel Nabimanya 46 the village Chairperson.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says, on the 23rd July 2021 at around 5 pm, Nabimanya left his first home heading to Kabihi trading center for work to enforce the presidential directives on the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Maate, the deceased’s first wife Beinomugisha Jacklin 35 waited for him but he didn’t show up and the wife thought that he could have gone to spend a night at the second wife’s home.

It was Saturday morning at around 7am when she instead received information that a certain body was lying on the way to her home and dropped into tears upon finding her husband dead.

According to residents, Tumanye (the suspect) a nephew to the deceased had a long-term conflict with the deceased which had even been reported to the police.

This prompted Police to search Tumanye’s home where they discovered blood-stained clothes therein pending to be taken to GAL.

Postmortem was done and the body was handed over to the relatives for burial.

Inquiries have commenced establishing the likely actual motive and all those involved so that are brought to book.

The case of murder by cutting has since been registered at Rukungiri Central police station under reference number CRB 1152/2021.
