Museveni eulogizes Dr. Mbonye, describes his death as a big disappointment

STATE HOUSE | UGANDA: President Museveni has eulogized former acting director-general health services, Prof Anthony Kabanza Mbonye describing his death as a big disappointment for the country and all who know his work in the medical service.

State House Sunday announced Prof Mbonye’s death on Twitter but according to Mr. Museveni, he (Mbonye) still had a lot to contribute to the country.

Mr. Museveni saluted Prof Mbonye’s wife, Ms. Lucy Nakyobe, the former State House comptroller for doing “everything possible to support him during the time of his sickness.”

“I want to express condolences to our incoming Head of Civil Service, Lucy Nakyobe on account of the death of her husband, Dr. Mbonye. His untimely death is a big disappointment for the country and all who know his work in the medical service.

He still had a lot to contribute. I salute Lucy Nakyobe because she did everything possible to support him during the time of his sickness. She was always briefing me. May his soul rest in external peace,” Mr Museveni tweeted.

The Ministry of Health also lauded Prof Mbonye for his immense contribution to Uganda’s health sector.

“Prof Mbonye’s immense contribution to the health sector will never be forgotten. May his legacy live on. May his soul rest in eternal peace” reads part of a statement on the ministry’s handle.

Prof Mbonye resigned from the Ministry of Health in 2018 after serving for more than 30 years.

Mbonye who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Copenhagen also taught at Makerere University School of Public Health since 1996 and at the Uganda Christian University since 2008.
