Parliament of Uganda has purchased new iPads for its MPs, to ease their work in the August house, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Anita Among has announced.
“I am glad to inform you that the iPads, instead of us asking for papers for documents, the Ipads are now available,” Among said during the plenary on Thursday, July 29, 2021.
Among added that the iPads will be given in the course of the week to make their work easy, other than using papers and stationery all through.
The new iPads for the 555 MPs in the 11th parliament are said to cost Shs 2Billion Shillings, meaning each iPad costs shs 3.6million.
However, Chris Obore, the Director of Communications, and Public Affairs in Parliament says the MPs are expected to return the iPad at the end of the 5year term.
Obore emphasized that the iPads are a government property, and they will be engraved with govt labels.
The announcement comes barely a week after Parliament issued out shs 200m for the MP’s vehicles, at a time when the country reels from the economy affected by the unending Covid-19 lockdowns.
