Three children admited after eating bananas laced with poison, one dead

Police in Mukono Division is investigating circumstances under which three children were poisoned after eating bananas laced with poison.

The atrocious incident happened at Buligobe Village, Nama Sub County in Mukono District.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire, it is alleged that on 3rd August 2021 at around 3pm, Bwire Ryan, 5 (now deceased), Isiiko Sharif, 5, and Abed Isiiko, 7, ate bananas laced with poison.

“The bananas are said to have been laced with poison by a one Nkonge, a farmer and resident of the same area and abandoned in the garden to kill monkeys which he says have been destroying his crops. Unfortunately, the children found the poisoned bananas and ate them,” said Owoyesigire.

One died while two others are in critical condition at Mukono General Hospital.

Owoyesigire said that investigations are underway to ascertain facts behind the incident adding that detectives have also picked samples of the poisoned bananas for analysis.

The body of the deceased child Bwire Ryan was conveyed to the mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem.
