CADJUMANI, UGANDA: The Adjumani District chairperson Mr. Anyama Ben has today sparked fury among members of the Village Health Teams (VHTs) when he threatened to lay them off for their continued support for former LC5 chairman Mr. Leku James.

During the long-awaited payment of the Covid-19, response allowances of the VHTs and LC 1 chairpersons in the town council hall today, September 7, 2021, Mr. Anyama accused most of the VHTs of laziness and relentless support for former LCV chairman Leku James.

He said “some of these VHTs and LCI chairpersons belong to the opposition party Forum for Democratic Change and are not ashamed to receive NRM cash.

The enraged VHTs and LCI chairperson from Adjumani town council, Adropi, and Pacara sub-counties all rose up in protest and rage and started heckling him as others shouted unpleasant words calling him all sorts of names, and refused to listen to him anymore.

The LCIII chairman Adjumani town council Mr. Mangapi Lawrence attempted to calm the situation but with very little success as some of the fuming members threatened to storm out of the hall.

Efforts to have the uncompromising Chairman retract his statement fell on death ears as he clearly indicated that 90% of the VHTs did not support him during the recently concluded elections.

The Adjumani Assistant District Health Officer Mr. Manga Godfrey meanwhile said the payment exercise of Coid-19, response allowances which started today will continue up to Wednesday since the exercise delayed for some time.

Manga said,” two VHTs per village and LCI chairpersons will receive shs 100,000 and LCI chairpersons will also receive same amount while the village covid-19, task force where the LCI chairperson and the two VHTs are members will also receive shs 100.000”.

The district has allocated shs 84m to carter for the Covid-19response allowances of all VHTs and LCI chairperson In the 209 villages.
