Journalist jailed over alleged acts likely to spread Covid-19

ADJUMANI, UGANDA: The grade one magistrate’s court in Adjumani yesterday, September 6, 2021, remanded Aulogo F.M journalist Jurugo Emmanuel alias Ogasto who doubles as the manager of Vintage club to Openzinzi prison.

Emmanuel Jurugo was remanded alongside two Dee Jays, Makumai Innocent, and Mawadri Benjamin.

The trio were charged with acts likely to spread disease, they did not take plea as the magistrate grade one Agnes Nantawo and the resident state attorney were not at the station.

They were arrested on August 30, 2021, on allegations of staging an illegal disco contrary to the presidential directives of Covid-19.

The management of Vintage club has however distanced themselves from the actions of its staff who flouted the covid-19, standard operating procedures that barred disco staging, and have pledged to sort out the matter administratively.

Since the outbreak of the corona pandemic in March 2020, over 9.000 people were tested in Adjumani, 823 tested positive and death toll stands at 15 according to a recent data obtained from the district health office.
