KAMPALA, UGANDA: A section of youths under their umbrella “The Uganda Poor Youth Movement” have today submitted a petition to H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Rt. Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanya requesting them to halt the process of disbanding the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
Through their leader, Ben Ssebuguzi who is the movement’s Secretary-General, the youths have cited different reasons among them being that our economy is developing at 8% before covid effects and therefore need a vibrant entity like UNRA which has been making an average of 400km per annum to continue with the momentum if we are to achieve vision 2040.
Ssebuguzi also argues that if UNRA if is taken back to parent ministry (Ministry of Works), there will be inefficiency in service delivery since many ministries in Uganda have too much bureaucracy and sluggishness.
The youths in their petition also appealed to the government to train UNRA staff in capacity building of managing roads but also consider local contractors.
