Machete wielding thugs assault radio presenter, two family members in Kabale

KABALE, UGANDA: Three people are nursing wounds after they were attacked by machete-wielding assailants in two separate incidents in Kabale district.

The first incident occurred at Birambo village, Maziba sub-county on Tuesday night at around 09:20pm when Provia Muhirwe was attacked and cut several times.

According to Wilson Kabarebe, the victim’s husband, while Muhirwe was in the kitchen, her six-year boy started dozing and she decided to take him to sleep. But on reaching the house, she found two men armed with machetes and a hoe.

Kabarebe says that the men demanded money or else she loses her life. Kabarebe says that because it was raining heavily, Muhirwe’s screaming for help was not heard and the suspects cut her several times in the head.

Kabarebe says that though Muhirwe managed to run out of the house, assailants also cut the boy several times. He says that both Muhirwe and the child are admitted at Maziba health center IV. The case is registered at Kabale Central Police Station under file number CRB 794/2021.

Another incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday morning at around 05:45 am in Kinyungusi village, Lower Bugongi ward, Northern division, Kabale municipality, when yet to be identified men who were armed with machetes and hammers cut 39-year-old Julius Atuheire alias pastor, a radio presenter attached to Rubanda FM.

The victim who is admitted at Kabale regional referral hospital says that while he was heading from home to work on the morning show at the radio in Kigongi, Central division, Kabale municipality, three men armed with machetes and hammers emerged and cut him on the head.

Atuheire also says that his mobile phone, Tecno F1 was taken. The case is registered at Kabale Central Police Station under file number SD 20/22/9/2021. Elly Maate, Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi region confirms the incidents saying that investigations into the matter are ongoing.

According to Maate, two suspects only identified as Crescent and Nasasira alias Kudidi have already been arrested at Kabale Central Police Station in connection to the cutting of Muhirwe and her son.

Maate also says that Atuheire was walking to his working place, and warns essential workers not to risk walking alone at night.
