KAMULI, UGANDA: Police in Kamuli district on Tuesday arrested 35-year-old Sadiki Mulinda, a ritualist over reportedly defiling his 13-year-old daughter for rituals.

Mulinda, a resident of Busana village, Nabuwigulu sub county, Kamuli district is reported to have been repeatedly defiling his daughter as a means of cleansing himself from family curses.

Mulinda separated from his wife early last year and resorted to defiling his daughter instead, arguing that she would cleanse their family from bad omen.

Medical procedures to confirm defilement have been conducted and the victim is being further managed at Kamuli general hospital.

The victim’s sister who spoke on condition of anonymity says that Mulinda told them that their young sister was their only remedy of atonement for all their sins committed before the ancestors.

“Father said that defiling our sister was a form of atonement before our ancestors who have kept us in a life of suffering and endless poverty,” she says.

She adds that she alerted police after Mulinda tried to defile her too, yet he is HIV positive. Mulinda, however, declined to comment about his shocking conduct over undisclosed reasons.

Busoga North’s police spokesperson Michael Kasadha says that Mulinda is being detained at Kamuli central police station awaiting prosecution.
Kasadha adds that detectives have been dispatched to gather more evidence implicating the suspect over the charges being leveled against him.
