HOIMA, UGANDA: Hoima parents and guardians want the government through the Ministry of Education and Sports to organize special trainings to school going children before reopening of schools that is expected in January next year.

According to the planned calendar, it is expected schools will open in January 2022 after nearly half a year of closure due Covid 19 pandemic in Uganda which forced the President of Uganda to reinstate a lockdown.

Since then the Ministry of Education and Sports has promised to release a revised school calendar and roadmap for the school reopening activities but all in vein.

Cobra Katusabe a resident of Kyabigambire Sub county says although parents yearn for the school reopening, but there is need to have these children in rehabilitation because these children have faced different challenges for the past months of the lockdown at home.

“Our children have taken long time in villages, some of them have adopted behaviors that are unacceptable at school and young have forgotten how to read and write, so bringing them back to school without a special training means others will not succeed”. Katusabe said.

Moses Muzoora another parent from Kyabigambire Sub county says it was significant for the government to collect views from parents be carrying out reopening of schools and know how manage learners when they resume studies.

“Teachers may find difficulties in managing the learners since they have taken long in their homes and their attitudes towards may be low”. Muzoora said.”

Since am a Farmer, am also worried to the fluctuating prices of agricultural products in Uganda which may also hinder my children to get back to school after the reopen due to financial constraints”. Muzoora added.

Nickson Busobozi another parent says that his children no longer know how to read and write saying if need be the education curriculum should be changed.
